Constructing Care Packages 101

My day yesterday was a bit grim.  To counteract the grimness of it, I decided to put together my adopted solder's first care package.  I already had the box in my car; it was given to me by a postal worker when I sent a package to an old friend of mine (also stationed oversees) a few weeks ago.  For perspective, it's just a smidge taller than an average can of soup.

I took pictures as I packed it.  It's like Mary Poppins' magic carpet bag; there is absolutely NO extra room in this box.  If anything, I'm hoping the post office will be cool with it despite the on-my-gosh-I-can-barely-close-it factor.  This box will be sent out either tomorrow (Friday) or Saturday, at the same time as letter #2.  It will be a race to see which one arrives first! So excited!!!

PS.  Big-box buy-it-in-bulk stores (my store of choice is Costco) are totally the way to go with care packages!!  I got a few items in bulk that I can include in multiple care packages to my adopted soldier, and even to my friend before he comes back to the states.

Building the box...
5 beef jerky sticks, 4 Cup Noodles, 2 cans of beef ravioli, 2 bottles of SOBE
1 Nerf mini gun, 1 Lifesavers Christmas book, 1 deck of cards, 1 box of Japanese rice candy
22 tubes of Chapstick (that's enough for his whole platoon plus a few extra!),
1 bag of dried mangoes, 4 plastic spoons, 3 things of floss, 6 granola bars
5 packs of gum, 7 Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and a sprinkling of toy dinosaurs (gotta have some fun!)
Another view!
And, a short note to top off the box.
